Fix child care & preschool shortages in the Kiama Electorate

Families across the Kiama Electorate are struggling to find child care and preschool that is available, affordable, and aligned to real working hours.

Our community preschools and local providers are the heart of our region, but they’re facing unmet demand, workforce shortages, and overstretched volunteer committees. Parents are competing for places that simply don’t exist.

Enough is enough.

Too many children miss out. Too many parents—especially mums—cut back hours or leave work. Families with children who have additional needs can’t get the support they require. Shift workers and small business owners can’t find hours that match their rosters. This is holding our local economy back.

We’re calling for practical solutions:

  • Access: More places where they’re needed most, and a plan to grow and retain the early-years workforce.
  • Affordability: Fairer fees and stronger relief so out-of-pocket costs don’t block participation.
  • Flexibility & inclusion: Extended/early/late hours for shift work and guaranteed inclusion support for children with additional needs.

We urgently need investment and accountability from the NSW Government to match our region’s growth—so every child can access quality early learning and every parent who wants to work can do so.
